Clean-up of Delta State will be Total – Omare

Francis sadhere

Delta State Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Frank Omare has said that there was no going back in the ongoing demolition exercise in the state, saying it will be total.

The Commissioner who state this today, during the demolition exercise being carried out on daily basis by the Special Sanitation Task Force, equally said that Government was poised to tackle environmental sanitation from all angles and that that all blocked canals in the state will be opened up.

He said; “The State Government is tackling environmental issues from different angles. Just like what we did last year, we are opening up all blocked canals. You will remember that what we did then helped to checkmate flood that was predicted. We are going to clear all the roads in the state of abandoned vehicles. Any abandoned vehicle that we find on the road, we are going to impound them.”

He said the clean-up of Warri and its environs was going to be total, adding that the exercise was going to be a continuous one.

According to him, the exercise was meant to make everywhere clean and accessible to all, noting that the team is going to bring down all illegal structures in the state.

He said; “As usual, we are going to bring down all illegal structures in the state. All officials of the team are very firm people. We will continue to be firm and we will make sure that we do not leave any stone unturned. We are going to make sure that all that must be done,  must be done . Government is doing everything humanly possible to ensure that Deltans live in a conducive environment.”

Hon. Omare said that the state government had recorded tremendous achievement in road construction in the state, warning all auto mechanics to stop using government roads as workshops.

Also speaking during the clean-up exercise, the Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Ben Ibakpa told journalists that what the state government was doing was for the benefit of all Deltans, saying that;” We know that we have been doing something like this before. But this time around we are going to ensure that the exercise is going to be total”.

Hon. Ibakpa also warned all motorists who have abandoned their vehicles on the roads to remove them or the task force will be forced to remove them.

It would be recalled that a mild drama, on Tuesday, ensued between Hon. Omare and a former Commissioner for Finance in the State, Hon. Love Ojakovo, as the team demolished a fence  of TIVO Supermarket, belonging to the former commissioner.

Hon. Ojakovo who confronted Hon. Omare with a court injunction restricting them from demolishing his fence, said it was wrong for the team to demolish his fence.

But Hon. Omare told Ojakovo that he had to destroy the fence because it was built under a high tension, an explanation Hon.  Ojakovo refused to take.

Some of the places visited so far by the Special Tax Force were; 3rd Marine Road, Robert Road, Ogunu Express Road, Swamp Road, Etuwewe Road and Okere Road, Warri.
