Road Dualisation: Delta Released N300m for Compensation

Delta State Government has released over N300 million for the payment of compensation to individuals and corporate organisations affected by the on-going dualisation of the Ughelli-Asaba Road project.
The money, according to the Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Urban Development, Mr. Misan UKubeinje is for those at the Sector A of the 149KM road which was awarded in 2008, adding that compensation for Sectors B and C have been paid.
UKubeinje who spoke alongside his counterpart in the Special Duties ministry, Mr. David Anuku during inspection of the project, said the money was released to the valuer, Dan Odiete & Co., adding that issues with double claims were be handled.
Meanwhile, arrangements have been concluded for the commissioning of the Sector B which is about 53KM and has attained 95% completion by Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan.
Mr. Anuku while fielding questions from newsmen after the inspection said it has become necessary to commission Sector B of the road because of the need to ensure that Deltans have access to good roads.
He said minor rap-up works were still on-going in the Sector B which runs from Aradhe in Isoko North council to Osissa in Ndokwa East council area and commended the contracting firm for executing the job according to specification.
“Our main interest for now is Sector B of the road because the governor is desirous to commission that sector. Work on Sector A is still on-going, as you can see, we are expecting 60 to 70 percent completion for Sector A,” he said.
For Sector C, Anuku explained that there were issues with the contracting firm which according to him, were been resolved, assuring that the contractor will soon return to site to continue the job.
“As soon as the issues we are having with the contractor handling Sector C is settled , harmonized and resolved, work will commence immediately, we are looking at a possible re-design of the entire work plans for Sector C, to ensure for speedy completion,” he added.
