PTI HAS PRODUCED 65% TECHNICAL MANPOWER IN OIL & GAS SECTOR–PRINCIPAL

In keeping faith with the ACT that established the Petroleum Training Institute, Effurun with the mandate to develop skilled technical manpower for the Nigerian Oil & Gas industry, the Institute has produced 65% of the technical manpower that is driving the nation’s oil and gas sector.
This was disclosed by Prof. Sunny Esayegbemu Iyuke, Principal/Chief Executive, Petroleum Training Institute (P. T. I.), Effurun at a press briefing as part of a weeklong activities of the 2019 Convocation ceremony, he said that he was determined to rewrite the history of the Institute by making it to occupy it’s pride of place in the oil and gas training institutions in the world.
Prof. Iyuke further disclosed that the Institute has rejig one of its core mandates, Research and Development and Seminars by organizing an International Conference on Hydrocarbon with a theme, ” Oil and Beyond Oil”.
According to Prof. Iyuke, “the Petroleum Training Institute (P. T. I.) was established by an ACT No.37 of 1972, as amended by ACT No. 2 of 973 and the P. T. I. CAP P16 of the laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, with a mandate to develop skilled Technical Manpower for the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry, arrange Conferences, Seminars and Study groups required for oil and exploration and production. In realization of this objectives, the P. T. I. has produced 65% of the Technical Manpower in the oil and gas sector.”
Speaking on Research and Development, Prof. Iyuke has this to say, “Iam glad to inform you that the Institute has rejig one of its core mandates, Research and Development and Seminars. In pursuit of one of this objectives, the Institute is organizing an International Conference on Hydrocarbon entitled, “Oil and and Beyond Oil”. The Conference is a breakthrough for the Institute as the last national workshop was held more than a decade ago. The theme of the conference is very apt as our economy is mono-cultural, relying on a single commodity-oil while other sectors of the economy have been relegated to the background.”
He said that his administration is committed to the development of the Institute in terms of academic quality and infrastructural development, adding, “I am delighted to inform you that the Institute is developing a new educational modeling the development of its technical manpower. Besides the hands-on training, the Institute is developing it’s students to adapt to the global economic trend that individuals arm themselves with more than just academic degrees and qualifications to enable them build a better future.”
On collaborations, the Principal/Chief Executive of the P. T. I. disclosed that the Institute is collaborating with Southern Alberta institute of Technology (SAIT), Calgary, Canada in students exchange, adding, ” by the time the collaboration is sealed, P. T. I. students will have the opportunity to travel to Canada for internship. I am proud to say that the Institute can compete at global level as the Institute is well equipped with human capital and facilities.”
Speaking on his achievements so far, Prog. Iyuke listed them to include introduction of International Professional Certification (IPC), introduction of P. T. I. Post HND program rammed in collaboration with University of Port Harcourt with first set graduating next year, about 90 staff of the Institute been trained and certified as ISO901:2015 Implementation and Documentation Instructors, Digital hub of the DIPTI upgraded, e-classrooms and e-library now operational, massive renovations and upgrades of physical infrastructures among others.
While commending the Alumni Association of the Institute for its sustained support towards the overall progress of the Institute, Prof. Iyuke reiterated his determination to rewrite the history of the Petroleum Training Institute to be reckon with globally and made to occupy its pride of place in the oil and gas training Institutions.
