POLL SHIFT: ONUESOKE BACKS INEC, DEFENDS PDP
By Our Correspondent
Renowned Niger Delta activist Sunny Onuesoke has stated that the life of a Nigerian is superior to any election. The Urhobo born political analyst who made the assertion in a media interaction with news men over the shift of the general elections at his ultra modern President Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Office in Ovwian Udu Local Government Area of Delta State on Monday February 9th,2015 also noted that INEC boss Professor Jega has the constitutional right to postpone the general elections.
“In the United Stated and other civilized countries where we copied democracy from the life of a citizen is valued more than any national activity .More so when the issue at stake has to do with the security of lives. So why should our case be different?” He queried.
Continuing Onuesoke stated that “The military has stated that it cannot guarantee the lives of electorate in the troubled areas during the earlier scheduled dates of the general elections. The arm of government saddled with the responsibility of security of lives and properties has said that it cannot guarantee the lives of citizen in the Northern Eastern states of the country. So it will be wise to yield to their warning. For if anything goes wrong, it is the same opposition and uninformed Nigerians that will blame INEC for not yielding to their warning”
Commenting on the legality of the elections shift Onuesoke reasoned that “ What we should be looking at, is whether it was constitutional for Professor Jega to do what he did. And of course he has the constitutional right to postpone the general elections. Moreover the postponement is within the election time frame. Fortunately the postponement will give more credibility to the general elections as INEC would have distributed more Permanent Voters Cards (PVC) to those that have not gotten theirs . For according to INEC at as the time the elections were postponed only about 65% of the PVCs have been distributed”
Reacting to the insinuations that the poll shift was masterminded by the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), the Delta State PDP chieftain described the insinuations as a cheap blackmail by the opposition as he noted that PDP has more loses to count than the opposition in terms of campaign adverts or publicity” Nigerians can attest to this fact”
Onuesoke however expressed confidence that his party will sweep the polls in the new dates of the elections both in Delta State and national levels as he urged well meaning Nigerians and the international communities to ignore the senseless outbursts of the opposition on the shift of election dates.
