Attack on Omo-Agege: 2019 may be bloody, Former Delta Commissioner warns
By Francis Sadhere
Following the recent attacks on the senator representing Delta Central in the National Assembly, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege by hoodlums in Uvwie local government area of the State, former Delta State Commissioner for Education, Dr (Mrs) Veronica Ogbuagu had said that 2019 elections in the state may be bloody if care is not taken.
She said with the alleged assassination attempt on the senator who is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the next election may be through the “ballot or the bullet.”
Dr Ogbuagu made this statement in Uvwie when the executive members of a political pressure group under the aegis of Delta Dream Team 2019, paid her a courtesy call.
Ogbuagu who is an APC chieftain in Delta State said those who attacked Senator Omo-Agege knows that he is a strong opponent in the state, saying that any politician who rejoices at the destruction of human life is not fit to be entrusted with power.
While condemning the attack she wondered what was the motive behind the attack. Dr Ogbuagu wondered why anybody would want Senator Omo-Agege dead, stressing that the attack was premeditated.
“The attack from the way it was carried out showed that the distinguished Senator is a big threat to the ambition of some politicians. With this show off violence, people now believe that in 2019 elections, it’s got to be the ballot or the bullet.
“We wish to formally condemn in totality the unprovoked, and premeditated attack on Senator (Barr) Ovie Omo-Agege and his supporters, and would want the culprits to be brought to book. We also wish to appeal that he revisits the market and complete his empowerment scheme,” Dr Ogbuagu said.
Dr Ogbuagu, who is also the proprietress of Chinkelly School, Ekpan, appealed to the PDP in Uvwie local government area of the State to shun all forms of violence, urging them further not to allow themselves to be used to carry out dirty jobs by politicians.
“Nigeria is a multi-party state where all political parties with diverse opinion are constitutionally accommodated. Any politician who had served his/her people well need not be afraid. Let his/her work speak for him/her. Such a fellow does not need to campaign before being reelected a second, third, a fourth or fifth time as the case may be.
“Uvwie LGA is no longer an uncivilised LGA. Notorious and over ambitious politicians should reexamine their actions. Violence never solved problems but create new ones that are usually worse. Let’s give peace a chance,” Dr Ogbuagu noted.
Earlier, Dr Ogbuagu thanked the Delta Dream Team 2019 for the visit, saying that with the team behind the APC in the state, the party will become stronger.
She said the Delta APC since 2015 has suffered a lot of set back door to “abuse of power, litigations, injustice, power tussle, lack of trust, indiscipline” amongst others.
she therefore urged the Delta State APC chairman, Prophet Jones Erueh to harness the diversity, the energy and the creativity of all the members of the party to the benefit of the party.
On his part, the President Delta Dream Team, Wilson Akpos, explained that the groupis a strong formidable party of the APC, adding that it will support any viable candidate of the party that can take the state to new heights.
Akpos who was represented by the group’s Secretary, Barr Ifeanyi Agba said, “We have set the coin rolling with the formation of this organisation and we shall stop at nothing in making sure that in 2019, Delta State will have a governor and other leaders that will make the state the California of the South-South Nigeria.”
