PDP CRISIS, A UNIFYING FACTOR, SAYS- FORMER DELTA SSG
By Ovedhe Jerry
The immediate past Secretary to the Delta State Government, Comrade (Chief) Ovuozourie Macaulay, has described the Supreme Court judgment affirming Senator Ahmed Makarfi, as the authentic chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as victory for democracy and unifying factor among PDP faithful across the country.
The former Delta SSG, who reacted to the judgment in a statement made available to journalists, acknowledged that the legal battle could have been avoided “if some of the political gladiators heeded wise counsel.”
In his words: “The disagreement between both sides of the divide was a needed elixir for the unity of our great party to face the challenges ahead. I was optimistic that lessons have been learnt which will put the party in a better position for future electoral victories. Now we know the authentic leader of our party. It is no longer in doubt that the PDP still has its credibility and defined road map for the socio-political and economic recovery of our great nation Nigeria and am very pleased that the matter has come to an end and the party is back as indivisible one family”.
“The judgment has taken us out of the wilderness but we can only get to the Promised Land by taking over in 2019. The verdict is a judgment where there is no victor no vanquish. It is a verdict that will bring our party together”.
While congratulating the Ahmed Makarfi-led Caretaker Committee, he urged them not to see the victory as sectional victory but victory for all and constitutionality over arbitrariness, saying that; “I thank God for this day of justice and May God bless Nigeria. I believe in our jurists. We may have issues with some individuals but the Nigerian judiciary deserves respect and commendation”, Macaulay said.
