Edo Governorship Election: Protests Erupt at INEC Office Amid Allegations of Compromise

Protests broke out at the National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Edo State early Sunday morning as members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) raised concerns over an alleged attempt to compromise the election results.

The demonstration, led by APC National Secretary Surajudeen Adebola, centered around accusations of abuse of office and interference in the electoral process.

The protest occurred around 3 AM, shortly before the expected announcement of election results.

Party agents and journalists had gathered in the conference hall when the APC protesters stormed the entrance to the INEC office.

Adebola claimed that the party had received intelligence indicating that Governor Godwin Obaseki was present at the INEC office, allegedly attempting to manipulate the election outcome.

Deputy Inspector General of Police Frank Mba was deployed to manage the situation, which ultimately resulted in Governor Obaseki leaving the premises.

Earlier, the PDP candidate, Asue Ighodalo, also voiced concerns, alleging irregularities in the relocation of coalition centers in Oredo and Ikpoba-Okha to the INEC headquarters.

As of this report, INEC has not commented on the allegations, and the announcement of results at the state level has yet to commence.

The situation remains tense as both parties await clarity on the election proceedings.
