Ighogbadu Primary Sch. Wins Zenith Bank Sponsored Delta State Headmaster Cup

Ighogbadu Primary School, Warri in Warri South local Government Area of has emerged winners of the third edition of the Zenith sponsored Delta State Headmaster Cup.
Playing at the finals decided at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, Ighogbadu Primary School defeated Johannah Model School, Udu by a lone goal to win the coveted trophy of the tournament.
The third place match ended in favour of Ani-nshi Primary School, Ogwashi-Ukwu, they defeated Ometan Primary School, Aghalokpe, Okpe Local Government Area in a penalty shoot out.
Declaring the competition close, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor of Delta State represented by Kingsley Emu, Secretary to the Delta State Government(SSG) commended the sponsors of the tournament which according to him will promote sports among primary school children.
Rt. Hon. Oborevwori said that Delta State had continued to be a leading state in sports competitions especially in National Youth Games, National Sports Festival, adding, “when we host, we win; and if we don’t host, we win.”
While eulogizing Zenith Bank Plc, the tournament sponsors, Rt. Hon. Oborevwori was of the opinion that primary school sports had remained the best thing that had happened to the State.
Earlier, Dr. Kingsley Ashibogu, the State Commissioner for Primary Education disclosed that a total of 756 schools participated in the preliminaries, he added that the championship was organised to advance the policies and programmes of the present administration in promoting the game of football among primary school children.
Also speaking, a representative of the tournament sponsors, Ifeanyi Atama expressed satisfaction with the performances of the competing schools, and gave an assurance that the financial institution would look into sponsoring female category of such competition .
Highlights of the championship included presentation of medals, cheques and trophies to the winners, runners up, third placed winners as well as the school that came fourth position.
Ighogbadu Primary School smiled home with first prize of two million naira (N2,000,000) plus a school bus to be presented at a later date while the second position won by Johannah Model School, Udu picked one million, five hundred thousand naira (N1,500,000) and third position, Ani- nshi Primary School, Oghwashi Uku collected one million naira (N1,000,000) and the fourth prize of five hundred thousand naira went to Ometan Primary School, Aghalokpe.
Other prizes won includes Best Player, Best Goalkeeper and Highest Goal Scorer of fifty thousand naira (N50,000) each.
