Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has reaffirmed his commitment to an inclusive government during a recent visit by the Delta State Association of the Deaf at Government House, Asaba.

The visit coincided with the celebration of the 2024 International Week of the Deaf, themed “Sign up for sign language rights.”

Speaking through Chief of Staff Hon. Prince Johnson Erijo, Governor Oborevwori emphasized the importance of providing equal opportunities for all, including those living with disabilities.

He acknowledged the association’s peaceful support over the years and assured them that their requests would be addressed.

“We are committed to running an administration that includes all Deltans, especially those with hearing disabilities,” Erijo stated.

He expressed gratitude for the community’s steadfastness and support for the Oborevwori administration.

Comrade Oyibo Emmanuel, Chairman of the Delta State Association of the Deaf, highlighted the need for greater integration of the deaf community into government.

He proposed the appointment of three representatives from their community to advocate for their interests and called for qualified special teachers to be assigned to the state’s 11 special schools to enhance communication and learning.

“We urge the Governor to take actions that will leave a lasting legacy,” Oyibo added.

The Governor’s administration is poised to explore these suggestions as part of its commitment to fostering an inclusive environment for all residents of Delta State.
