International Women’s Day: Oboro Advocates Adequate Recognition For Women Towards Societal Progress

As women all over the world celebrates International Women’s Day, Commissioner for Water Resources Development, Rt. Hon Evelyn Omavowan Oboro Esq. has advocated for women to be given adequate recognition towards societal progress.

The International Women’s Day is celebrated every year to campaign for the right of women to vote and be voted for, to work, to be trained, and to hold public offices as part of efforts to end discrimination against the female gender.

Oboro in a special message for the International Women’s Day in line with the 2022 theme: ‘Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow’, described women as vanguard of civilization and emancipation all over the world.

According to her: “women must be given adequate recognition for the society to progress because women have been found to excel above their male counterparts in all facets of endeavours”.

She posited that women would perform better if given enabling environment, judging by the way they exhibit discipline and adhere to professional ethics whenever they occupy key leadership positions.

The former House Committee Chairman on Women in Parliament of the House of Representatives, charged women to reflect on their lives and live with dignity and respect, which she said were attributes of virtuous women.

Stressing the importance of the day, she said it recognizes the fact that security, peace, social progress and full benefits of human rights and fundamental freedom, hence it requires active participation of women.

Oboro, Senatorial Candidate of the PDP in Delta Central in the last general elections, commended Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa for ensuring that women were adequately represented in elective and appointive positions in the state.
