…Three Persons Still Missing After Bloody Incident
For the day started well for them. They had done all the necessary things for the day and decided to step out in the last day of the month for some drinks in the evening. It turned out not to be a pleasant night after all.
On March 31st, 2013, while they were in the local bar drinking in the rustic Orerokpe Community, Headquarters of Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State, Nigeria, some community securities, popularly known as Vigilantes stormed the Bar in Commandos style, that one Odigo, Oberirhi, Dennis and his friends were under arrest for fighting. But insisted that they were not fighting. They were not listened to as the local securities insisted that they follow them to the Police Station.
According to a family source close to one of the victims, as law abiding citizens, they were pushed into the Police cell on getting to the Station. But their nightmare just began because some few hours later when they were in the Police cell, they heard sporadic gunshots.
When the smoke cleared, according to the family source, a Police officer on duty walked up to them in the cell and broke the sad news to them that someone just shot the leader of the Vigilante dead and that people were burning down houses and other valuable things, while others ran for their dear lives and several others sustained gun shot injures and were taken to the hospital.
It was gathered that the next morning, irate youths and aggrieved family members of the deceased came to the Police Station were they insisted that they must be released for them to be killed in retaliation or else they will set the entire Police station ablaze.
But our source said that with the efforts of military personnel alerted over the crisis that has engulfed the community, they were rescued from the Police cell and were whisked away to the State Police Headquarters in Asaba, the state capital for safety.
The Family member said that after then, nothing was heard again about them, describing them at the time of this report as a peace loving youths. He maintained that all efforts to trace their whereabouts since then proved abortive.
