DOEKWA Partners NDDC To Donate Mobility Aids To People Living with Disabilities in Delta

DOEKWA Consulting Nigeria Limited has in collaboration with the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) donated aids to People Living with Disabilities(PLWD) in Warri.
In his remarks, Mr. Peters Agbafor,

Nigeria Limited commended the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for the partnership to alleviate some of the plight of People Living With Disabilities.
Mr. Agbafor charged the beneficiaries at the seminar to take the lectures delivered seriously in order to be more useful to themselves and the society they find themselves.
He added that DOEKWA Consulting Nigeria Limited collaborated with the NDDC to put the initiative together to mark the ‘International Day for Persons Living with Disabilities in Delta State.
Addressing the participants drawn from various local government areas of Delta State in Warri, Mrs. Precious Peter–Ukale, Principal Manager, Delta State Office of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) disclosed that the Commission is at the forefront in catering for the needs of Persons Living With Disabilities.
She further said that NDDC often organizes programmes for them which include empowerment, education, skill acquisition and scholarship regularly, adding that NDDC has a budget to assist the less-privileged and Persons Living With Disabilities in the society.
Mrs. Peter-Ukale disclosed that NDDC also sets up budgetary provisions for scholarships for those that are in special needs provided they meet the requirements.
According to her “NDDC has a scholarship scheme for every Niger Delta citizen provided they can pass the scholarship examination. NDDC Department of Education, Health and Social Services has numerous interventionist programmes for the Niger Delta Region. We (NNDC) also intervene in natural disaster cases such as flood, landslide, rainstorm with funds and relief materials. We also build temporary camps for the internally displaced persons among others.”
Delivering a lecture titled, “Leadership Skills For Person With Disability,” Mrs. Nefertiti Ayo Okotie, Executive Director, Neferok Development Initiative said that disabled persons should not beg or solely depend on others, because they have ability and potentials they can develop to become self-reliant, adding that person with disability can become a leader.
Mrs. Okotie said that Person With Disability can acquire skills to make themselves productive, she urged them to acquire skills to be more relevant, adding, “please go out to acquire skills in technology, entrepreneurship, communication and go into partnership in public and private sectors.”
Delivering another lecture, “Mental Health and Disability “, Dr. Ngozi Sandra Ikenyei, Senior Lecturer, Department of Sociology, Delta State University, (DELSU),Abraka harped on mental health problems/challenges, common types of disability, depression, phobia, impaired vision, physical disability, accidents and poor access to health care among others.
Also speaking, Comr. Ernest Igbuzor, Chairman, Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities, Delta State expressed appreciation DOEKWA Consulting Nigeria Limited and management of the NDDC for what he referred to as life changing opportunity with the distribution of mobility aids to persons with disabilities in Delta State to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
Comr. Igbuzor disclosed that the Delta State Government has so far given over 300 persons with disabilities health cards to access health facilities and have free treatment.
Various items ranging from wheelchairs, walking aids, bags, T-shirts, Fez caps, among others were given to the participants.
The event which was facilitated by DOEKWA Consulting Nigeria Limited had in attendance over 240 persons living with disabilities from Delta State.
