The Delta State Government has encouraged eligible youths to apply for the ongoing Nigerian Army recruitment drive, aiming to bolster local representation in the military.

The appeal was made by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, during a meeting with Brig. Gen. Wilto Nzidee, the team lead for the South-South Recruitment Sensitization Exercise, and Brig. Gen. Unachukwu Unachukwu, Commander of the 63 Brigade, on Monday.

Dr. Emu praised the Nigerian Army for its efforts in raising awareness about the recruitment process and noted that Delta has made significant progress in meeting its recruitment quota, increasing from 137 out of 140 last year.

He emphasized the importance of providing gainful employment opportunities for youths, highlighting the military as a vital avenue for such engagement.

“The military is a professional and disciplined force, and it would be beneficial for every Nigerian to receive military training,” he stated.

Emu also mentioned the establishment of a committee to promote recruitment efforts, which includes the Commissioner for Youths and representatives from the traditional rulers’ council.

Brig. Gen. Nzidee echoed the call for Deltans to take advantage of the recruitment opportunities, stressing the importance of local participation in the Army.

He reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to transforming into a well-trained and equipped force, ready to secure the nation against internal and external threats.

The Delta State Government remains dedicated to enhancing recruitment figures, aiming to surpass the current quota and ensure that qualified youths from the state are well-represented in the military.
