DELTA 2015 UPU ENDORSEMENT OUTCOME: TRADITIONAL RULERS, UPU AGREED TO WAIT UNTIL AFTER PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS
Tejiri Ebikeme
The outcome of the special meeting between the leadership of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) with Urhobo Traditional Rulers (IVIEs) is that UPU should stay action not to endorse any of the Urhobo gubernatorial candidates until after the presidential elections.
The Urhobo kings and UPU have concluded that the candidates will need to satisfy certain conditions before endorsement can considered especially their capacity to mobilize the people of Delta Central and Deltans across the three senatorial districts. UPU, according to the source, is currently monitoring the campaign rallies and the mobilization strength of the two candidates (Chief Great Ogboru of the LP and Olorogun O’tega Emerhor of the APC).
UPU is mindful of the controversy that the endorsement has generated in recent times and will now thread with some high degree of caution before announcing an Urhobo consensus gubernatorial candidate for the forthcoming general elections.
This development has put to rest the rumour making the rounds that UPU is likely to endorse one of the gubernatorial candidate in the next couple of days.
