CSR: NNPC/CNL JV donates 3-classrooms block to Edjeba Primary School, reiterates commitment to improving lifes,
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC)/Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) Joint Venture (JV) has reiterated it’s commitment to improving quality of life in the society through the provision of various infrastructures and other identified needs.
The Chairman and Managing Director of CNL, Rick Kennedy gave the assurance on Wednesday during the handing over of a 3-classrooms block built by the NNPC/CNL JV to the Edjeba Community Primary School, Edjeba, Warri South Local Government Area of Delta.
The fully furnished classrooms block was officially handed over to the management of the school in a colourful ceremony amid thanks and commendations to the donor.
Kennedy who was represented at the ceremony by Mr Rilwanu Momodu, Chevron’s Area Manager,
Policy, Government and Public Affairs (PGPA) said that the oil company believed so much in education because it was the bedrock of national development.
He, however, said that education was not the only programme the NNPC/CNL (JV) had embarked on in the Edjeba Community declaring that the oil giant had also embarked on social investments in the areas of solar-powered water project and drainage in the community.
Kennedy assured that the company would continue to pursue other areas of benefits to its stakeholders.
“This school project further illustrates our commitment to improving the quality of education in Nigeria.
“Our pride will be to see students from this State go on to become internationally celebrated professionals in their chosen fields of studies.
“Our social investment activities in the field of education speaks for themselves in all communities and go a long way to support the nation and government in the achievement of it’s Sustainable Development Goals (SGD’s).
“I encouraged the beneficiary of the project to make judicious use of the facility for the benefit of the good people of Edjeba Community,” Kennedy appealed.
The CNL chairman, however, thanked the Delta State government and the people of Edjeba Community for their partnership in ensuring the successful execution and completion of the project.
In his remark, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State thanked the NNPC/CNL JV for the donation and promised to continue to provide the enabling business climate in the state.
Okowa who was represented by Mr Ewetan Peterson, however, urged the teachers, pupils and the entire residents of Edjeba Community to maintain the facilities.
Also, Dr Michael Tidi, the Chairman, Warri South Local Government Area thanked the NNPC/CNL JV on behalf of the teachers and pupils of the Edjeba Community Primary School.
“This school falls under my purview as a council chairman. Sometime ago, the Councillor representing this community attracted desks and chairs to this particular school.
“I am delighted to join others in the inauguration of this critical edifice which is part of your social investment activities. It is a thing of joy to the people of Warri South Local Government Area.
“So, on behalf of the government and people of Warri South Local Government Area, I say, thank you.
“I as a product of public school, I believe that the pupils that will take classes under this roof will come out well and excel in whatever they do,” Tidi said.
Mr Mathew Opuoro, member representing Warri South Constituency Two at the Delta State House of Assembly also thanked the NNPC/CNL JV for the impactful project
“Education is the cornerstone of governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration in the state,” he said.
On her part, Mrs Rose Ezewu, the Delta Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education thanked the company for the donation.
Ezewu who was represented by Mrs Egbejuwa Nana expressed hope that the facility would provide a better space for learning for the pupils.
Dr Morris Idiovwa, the Director-General, Delta Local Content Agency urged the people to shun restiveness to attract more projects to the community.
According to Idiovwa who was represented by Mrs Okwobeno Aghogho, there will be more development where there are no restiveness.
Highpoint of the event was the cutting of cake by Mr Ewetan Peterson, on behalf of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
