In a determined bid to help raise teaching and learning standard in their Alma Mata, the 1975 Set of Urhobo College Old Students Association (UCOSA) has donated desks(chairs & tables) to the school.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Prof. Chris Ugolo, National President and member of the 1975 Set of Urhobo College Old Students Association (UCOSA) said that the donation was part of their contribution towards the advancement of education of current students of the school.

Prof. Ugolo of the University of Benin disclosed that they were moved by the plight of students who were sitting on bare floor to learn in response to a Save Our Souls (SOS), message sent to them by the management of the school.

According to Prof. Ugolo, “this donation of one hundred desks to our Alma Mata is our modest contribution to create a conductive teaching and learning environment with a view to shore up standard of education in the State. Government alone cannot do it, so Iam calling on other stakeholders to lend a helping hand to give the up coming generation good education.”

Also speaking, High Chief Francis Ovie Oghomitse, Co-ordinator of 1975 Set World-wide said that the pitiable sight of students sitting on the floor to learn in their Alma Mata moved them to act very quickly to provide the desks.

High Chief Oghomitse called on government to prioritize education because of its importance in the overall development of the nation adding that their gesture was to support government to help build a better future for the upcoming generation.

According to High Chief Oghomitse, retired Chevron engineer and Chief Executive Officer, FOGH Hotels, Ugberikoko, Uvwie Local Government Area, ” though several sectors requires attention, government should prioritize education, it should not be neglected because of its importance to national stability, peace and security as well as overall development.”

Receiving the items, Mrs. Patience Awusi, Principal, Urhobo College, Effurun expressed her appreciation to the Old Students Association for the kind gesture.

While promising to put to good use items donated, Mrs. Awusi said that government alone cannot do it, she then called on other stakeholders to emulate the kind gesture of the 1975 Set of Urhobo College Old Students Association(UCOSA) and like the proverbial Oliver Twist, she called on the Old Students to look into other areas of the schools’ need.

Prominent Old Students of the 1975 Set present were Chief Rob Odiete, Henry Ikomi among many others.

High point was the presentation of the one hundred desks to the management of the school.
