IYC ENDORSES USE OF MAXIMUM FORCE AGAINST BOKO HARAM
By Our Correspondent
The Ijaw Youth Council has endorsed the use of maximum force against the Boko Haram sect by the Federal Government.
The group said it had watched the activities of the Boko Haram sect and wholeheartedly backed the decision of President Jonathan to apply fire for fire in tackling the Boko Haram insurgency.
IYC spokesman, Barrister Eric Omare, in a press statement made available to newsmen in Warri said; “We strongly believe that this is the solution to the Boko Haram problem. However, we dare to further call for use of maximum force to crush and flush out not only Boko Haram members, but their sponsors, those sympathetic to them or anybody that is in any way connected to the activities of Boko Haram.
According to the statement; “It is now crystal clear that Boko Haram’s sole agenda is to violently over take the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and declare Nigeria an Islamic state. If Boko Haram is not stopped with immediate effect they would soon extend their activities to other parts of the country. The audacity with which they attacked military barrack in Maiduguri recently is an indication of Boko Haram’s intentions.”
It added; “This intention of Boko Haram is treasonable and against the interest of Nigeria and Nigerians. Therefore, the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has no other option than to use maximum force to crush and flush Boko Haram out of Nigeria. Mr. President, this is an urgent national assignment which must be carried out without any further delay!”
