Police arrests 3 suspects over vandalism in Delta

 

The police on Delta State has arrested three suspects over alleged vandalization of properties belonging to former Delta Steel Company (DSC) now known as Premium Steel and Mines Limited (PSML), Ovwian/Aladja Community in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.

The three suspects were arrested following a tip off by members of the community leading to the police intercepting three heavily loaded truks with items suspected to have been vandalized and stolen from the company.

The arrests was also sequel to an alarm raised by some persons in Ovwian Community who are determined to see that the Steel Company functions well.

The Community apprehended the trucks and the drivers as they were leaving and called the Police who quickly swung into action and promptly intercepted the three trucks loaded with the vandalized properties with the three drivers.

When contacted, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Hafiz Mohammed Inuwa confirmed the report in a telephone chart with Our Correspondent.

The Delta police boss said, “Actually, we got an information that some suspected trucks were moving out of Aladja area with items suspected to have been vandalized from the moribund DSC.

“So, as a result, I quickly got in touch with the Commander of Safe Delta to consequently move along with his men and intercepted the three trucks.

“The three trucks are now at Ovwian/Aladja Division for safe keeping while the three drivers were apprehended.”

President-General of Ovwian Community, Matthew Uparan who confirmed the incident to National Reformer said the communities may not have had a hand in the alleged vandalism and stealing of properties from DSC yard.

Uparan said, “Since this Premium Steel came to take over the the company, the company’s property have been vandalized all the time.

Contacted the DGM Public Affairs of Premium Mines & Steel Limited, Mr. Emma Etaghene said, “I have not gotten the details but am trying to find out. As soon as I get the details, I will get in touch with you.”

But as at the time of filing this report, he was yet to get back to us.
