MUSLIM CLERIC URGES NIGERIANS NOT TO CELEBRATE CORRUPT LEADERS

Nigerians have been called upon to stop celebrating corrupt and bad leadership with a view to discourage looting of the nations’ treasury as well as engender overall development of the country.

The call was made by Alhaji Mumakai Unagha, President, Delta State Muslim Council while addressing Muslim leaders in the state who came to felicitate with him on his election into the executive of the Urhobo Progress Union(UPU), he said that corruption and bad leadership have become endemic in Nigeria adding that they are growing very fast amongst the people.

Alhaji Unagha then charged traditional rulers and religious leader to speak out adding that they should not remain silence over this worrisome trend, noting that rather they should look the other way while the decay is becoming endemic.

He also urged traditional rulers, religious and community leaders to act  fast as they have a duty, to intervene to revive our moral standard.

The Muslim leader particularly reminded the visiting Muslims that they, as mirror of the society should live exemplary  lives worthy of emulation as well as be good ambassador of Islam.

Alhaji Mumakai – Unagha who is the former chairman of the Delta State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board canvassed the restructuring of the Economic Finance Crime Commission ( EFCC) and the Independent Corruption Practice Commission (ICPC) to meet the aspiration of Nigerians.

He maintained that the two agencies have fallen short of Nigerians expectation stressing that they should be establish in both at the States and Local Government level.

Speaking on behalf of others, Alhaji Isa Onokeroraye,  leader of the delegation commended Alhaji Unagha for his election, they particularly commended the Urhobos for given their son despite his religious background, being a Muslim given the opportunity to serve Urhobo nation.

He enjoined other ethnic nationalities to emulate the good gesture of the Urhobo people,pointing out that it has portrayed the Urhobo as civilized and accommodating.

Alhaji Onokeroraye however charged Unagha to be loyal  and submissive in the task of moving  Urhobo nation  forward.

Highlight of the occasion was the formal presentation of souvenir to Alhaji Mumakai – Unagha.

Among those who graced the occasion Alhaji Wasiu Udi, Chairman, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Jurbril Jenije Chairman Jamaat Nastril Islam and many others.
