Delta Community Newspaper Publishers Sets for Annual Conference, Free Medical Outreach November 20

The Association of Community Newspaper Publishers of Nigeria (ACNPN), Delta State chapter, has concluded plans to host its 2025 Annual Conference on Thursday, November 20, 2025 in Asaba.

This was contained in a statement issued in Asaba signed by Dr. Felidae Essi, Chairman, ACNPN 2025 Conference Committee made available to the National Reformeronline , she said that the Conference would be a platform to celebrate excellence, deepen dialogue, and bring vital services to the people.

Dr. Essi emphasized that the event slated for Obi Nwaokocha Okeze Event Centre, Ibusa promises to be one of the most impactful, combining intellectual engagements with humanitarian service to the grassroots adding that Local newspapers represent the “heartbeat of local information and social accountability.”

She disclosed that in a strong demonstration of its commitment to community welfare, the publishers will begin the day with a free medical outreach for residents of Ibusa and neighbouring communities.

She added that the outreach which will cover diabetes screening, blood sugar checks, asthma evaluation, blood pressure tests, and other essential medical services will commence at 8:00 a.m, “medical professionals from partner organisations will be on ground to attend to hundreds of beneficiaries”.

According to Dr. Essi, “the main conference and keynote lecture are scheduled to begin by 11:00 a.m., drawing together media professionals, policymakers, traditional leaders, corporate partners, and grassroots stakeholders.

“This year’s event will be chaired by Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, who is expected to lead discussions on : The Impact of Community Newspaper on Mental Health Awareness and Access to Healthcare and The Role of Cooperative Societies in Promoting Community Healthcare and Mental Wellness

” Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, will grace the occasion as Special Guest of Honour, underscoring the state government’s recognition of the crucial role community newspapers play in strengthening civic participation.

“Prominent philanthropists and supporters of grassroots journalism, Mr. Victor Odebala and Pastor Idowu Okeze, will attend as Guests of Honour. Their presence aligns with the association’s mission to build partnerships with individuals whose contributions uplift local communities and support independent media.”

Dr. Essi spoke further, “major highlight of the conference will be the recognition and honouring of some distinguished Nigerians who have demonstrated exceptional service, leadership, and commitment to community development, media support, and humanitarian contributions.

The 2025 ACNPN Conference is expected to be a landmark gathering—uniting thought leaders, celebrating achievers, and delivering life-improving medical services to the grassroots.
