TYPE 1 DIABETES EASILY UNDERSTANDABLE

You may hear a lot of different explanation and sometimes misleading information about diabetes and how it affects people. I will go from step by step to talk about type 1 diabetes.

What is diabetes?

Diabetes is a condition where your body can not produce insulin, doesn’t produce enough or where your insulin doesn’t work properly. An insulin is hormone that helps your body use the glucose in your body to give energy. If you don’t have the right amount of insulin, or if your insulin is not doing its work properly, you can become very ill.

Insulin is made by an organ called the Pancreas, which lies behind the stomach it acts as a key that unlocks the body cells to let the glucose in, which is then converted to energy.

Where does glucose come from? Glucose enters the bloodstream when we digest carbohydrate from various kinds of food and drink. This including starchy foods such as bread, rice, potatoes, fruit, sugar and other sweet foods. Glucose also produced by the liver in people with diabetes insulin carefully control the amount of glucose in the blood.

Type 1 diabetes develops when the pancreas doesn’t produce any insulin because the insulin producing cells in the body have been destroyed or damaged. As a result of that, glucose remains in the blood stream is unable to enter the cell where it converted into energy.
