Ogheneruona Tejiri, Warri
As Nigeria celebrates her 65th Independence, Nigerians have been called upon to shift focus on positive aspects rather than on negativity which will ultimately inspire optimism as well as strengthen national unity.
This call was made by Rev. Joseph Phikpabore Oyibo, a Niger Delta Pastor and General Overseer, City of Faith Bible Living Church Inc. Udu near Warri, he said that the country has reasons to be grateful to God despite its challenges, stressing that thanksgiving should be at the centre of this year’s commemoration.
According to Rev. Oyibo, “you cannot receive more if you don’t appreciate what you already have. Nigerians should have a heart of gratitude for the peace, unity, and love we still enjoy today, even with all the odds.
“I urge citizens to shift their attention from the negatives and focus on the positive aspects of Nigeria, the creation of Nigeria itself was intended for good. Having such a mindset will inspire optimism and strengthen national unity.”
Rev. Oyibo further charged Nigerians to support the President Ahmed Bola Tinubu-led government, insisting that greater national prosperity is achievable if citizens rally behind the administration’s efforts.
Unveiling his proposals for a colourful anniversary, he suggested that all Nigerians should come out en masse to celebrate, while those who can afford it should wear outfits reflecting the green-white-green of the national flag.
He also called on government officials, political leaders, church pastors, imams, and traditional rulers to offer intercessory prayers for the peace, unity, and prosperity of the country during the Independence Day events.
To add colour to the festivities, Rev. Oyibo proposed that aeroplanes should fly banners and flags across major cities, especially in Abuja and other state capitals, carrying inscriptions explaining the symbolism of the Nigerian flag.
He further called on cultural groups across the country to showcase their unique dances and traditions, saying this would highlight Nigeria’s diversity and strengthen in inter-ethnic harmony.
The vibrant Niger Delta cleric stressed that Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary should go beyond mere routine, becoming instead a moment of gratitude, unity, and renewed hope for the nation’s future.
