Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor of Delta State has been commended for the right choice of appointing Dr. (Mrs.) Fidelia Chukwudumebi Ighrakpata as the Provost of the College of Education, Warri.
This commendation was made by Mr. Austin Ogude, former Special Assistant to the Governor of Delta State in a statement made available to Journalists in Warri, he said that the choice of Dr. (Mrs.) Ighrakpata is a case of putting a round peg in a round hole to achieve multiple milestones in the development of the institution going forward.
Mr. Ogude, Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer, RUBRUSKY Nig. Ltd said, “I want to use this opportunity to express my gratitude to our amiable Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori over the good decision he took in appointing Dr (Mrs.) Fidelia Chukwudumebi Ighrakpata as the new Provost of the College of Education, Edjeba in Warri South Local Government Area. This is one of his best policy statements in his drive to attain overall educational advancement in Delta State.

Dr.(Mrs.) Ighrakpata’s appointment marks a historic moment in the institution’s history, as she becomes the first internal female academic to emerge as substantive Provost since the establishment of the College.
Her emergence also carries deep symbolic significance, coming exactly 24 years after her late father, Prof. Alfred Unomah, served meritoriously as the institution’s 3rd substantive Provost between 1995 and 2002 — a rare legacy of academic excellence, leadership, and service.
Dr. (Mrs.) Ighrakpata is distinguished Physicist, an accomplished scholar, and seasoned administrator who began her Academic journey at the College in 2001 as Lecturer III in the Department of Physics and steadily rose through the ranks to become Chief Lecturer in 2016 through hard work, competence, and unwavering dedication.
She holds a B.Sc. in Applied Physics and an M.Sc. in Exploration Geophysics from the University of Benin, a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from Delta State University, Abraka, and a Ph.D. in Physics/Geophysics from Ambrose Alli University.
Over the course of an outstanding academic career spanning nearly three decades, Dr. (Mrs.)Ighrakpata has distinguished herself through exceptional service, visionary leadership, and professional integrity.
She has served in several strategic capacities, including Head of the Department of Physics, Deputy Provost, and notably, the institution’s first female Director of Management Information Systems since its inception.
Beyond administration, she is a prolific researcher and respected academic whose books and scholarly articles have appeared in reputable local and international journals.
Dr. (Mrs.) Ighrakpata has also contributed immensely to quality assurance in teacher education through active participation in accreditation exercises conducted by the National Commission for Colleges of Education.
Born into the renowned family of the late Prof. and Mrs. Alfred Unomah of Igbodo in Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State, and married to Hon. Solomon Ighrakpata of Effurun in Uvwie Local Government Area, Dr. (Mrs.) Ighrakpata is widely celebrated as a symbol of excellence, discipline, intellectual depth, and transformational leadership.
Her appointment is not only a personal achievement but also a defining milestone for gender inclusion, institutional advancement, and academic leadership within Delta State’s tertiary education sector.
