Speaking on the security situation in Nigeria, Prof. Odikaeseme noted that
insecurity was a global phenomenon but blamed it’s prevalence in Nigeria on the insincerity of successive administrations.
Prof. Odikaeseme said that the role of the Association was to complement activities of government security agencies.
The association’s chairman noted that government security agents could not be at every nooks and crannies in the country.
He added that government lacked the resources to provide enough manpower to guarantee the needed security in the country.
Prof. Odikaeseme added, “private security has been in the grassroot protecting private properties and business assets in the communities, and yet we are not recognised.
“Government should be able to recognise us because we are complementing the roles of government security agencies.
“Government cannot be everywhere, it does not have enough manpower to provide the much needed security. It is on that basis, we provide a complementary service by helping the government to eradicate crimes in the society,” he said.
Prof. Odikaeseme then appealed to government security agencies to see them as friends rather than enemies.
He spoke further, “our major challenge is the police and other government security agents. They do not see us as complementing their roles but rather as enemies trying to take over their jobs.
“We are helping them in closing security gaps in the country. Criminals should be off the roads and streets.
“Whenever we have information about vandalism or a plan to carry out crime, we report to government security for prompt action,” he said.
He expressed his appreciation to Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited for the donation and prayed God to continue to help the company to carry out it’s responsibilities.
