Online Publishers, Journalists, Stakeholders to Converge in Asaba for Democracy, Security Dialogue @ DOPF 2026 Lecture Oct. 21

Delta Online Publishers Forum (DOPF) 2026 Annual Conference and 6th Lecture Series slated for Wednesday, October 21, 2026 is expected to attract major gathering of media professionals, government officials, political leaders, lawmakers, security chiefs, academics, business leaders and other stakeholders in Asaba.

The conference, scheduled for Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at David’s Event Centre, GRA, Asaba, will commence at 11:00 a.m. and expected to provide one of the most expansive platforms for dialogue on democracy, electoral integrity, security and the responsibilities of the media in Nigeria.

The event is themed, “Democracy Under Pressure: Electoral Integrity, Security Challenges and Media Accountability in Nigeria.”

In a statement signed by Chijioke Williams Ugbolue and Josephine Omodior, Chairman and Secretary, 2026 Annual Conference and 6th Lecture Series Planning Committee said that the theme was jdeliberately chosen to stimulate informed and constructive engagement on issues central to the survival and strengthening of democratic governance in Nigeria.

The organiser said that the conference would examine the pressures confronting democratic institutions, the integrity and credibility of electoral processes, emerging security challenges and the evolving responsibilities of the media in an increasingly complex information environment.

The Committee noted that the media, particularly digital and online platforms occupies a critical position in shaping public discourse, informing citizens, promoting accountability and providing platforms for competing perspectives, stressing the need for professionalism, accuracy, ethical journalism and responsible use of digital media.

The conference is also expected to interrogate the relationship between electoral processes, security and media reporting, including the challenges posed by misinformation, disinformation, political communication, public trust and the safety and professional responsibilities of journalists.

The Committee said that arrangements are already in top gear to make the 2026 edition one of the biggest gatherings of online publishers and journalists in Delta State, with participation expected from top government officials, political leaders, lawmakers, politicians, academics, captains of industry, the Army, Police, Department of State Services (DSS), other security agencies and the nation’s electoral umpire.

The Committee noted that the broad spectrum of participants was intended to ensure that the conference provides a truly multi-sectoral platform where the issues raised by the theme could be examined from professional, political, academic, security and institutional perspectives.

According to Committee, “Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, is expected to grace the occasion as the Special Guest of Honour, while high rated professionals and politicians has been scheduled to chair the occasion.

The Planning Committee also disclosed that a prominent academician has been carefully selected and booked as the Distinguished Guest Lecturer for the 6th Annual Lecture.

The DOPF, a forum of online publishers and media practitioners, has continued to provide platforms for professional engagement on issues of public interest, including media responsibility, democratic governance, security and development.

Recent DOPF engagements have similarly focused on the role of responsible journalism in strengthening society and promoting peace.

The 2026 Conference, the Committee said, is therefore designed not merely as an annual media gathering but as a major convergence of ideas, expertise and institutional perspectives at a critical period in Nigeria’s democratic development.

The Planning Committee expressed confidence that the Conference would generate meaningful conversations capable of contributing to a better understanding of the challenges facing democracy, electoral processes, national security and the media, while reinforcing the importance of professional and accountable journalism.
