Ijaw Group Launches Movement to Tackle Underdevelopment in Delta Communities

By Francis Sadhere Warri
A socio-political group, the Ijaw Political Grassroot Development Movement (IPGDM), has been launched with a mandate to engage government and key stakeholders on issues affecting Ijaw communities in Delta State.
The convener and chairman of the group, Chief Mulade Sheriff, said the movement was established to draw attention to what he described as the persistent underdevelopment in Ijaw areas despite their significant contribution to the state and national economy.
According to him, the IPGDM will serve as a pressure group focused on advocating improved infrastructure, social amenities, and inclusive governance for Ijaw communities.
“It is a known fact that Ijaw communities continue to lack basic developmental needs despite our enormous economic contribution to the growth and development of Delta State and the nation at large,” he said.
Sheriff added that the group is committed to championing the interests of the people through constructive engagement and dialogue with relevant authorities.
“We are therefore taking the responsibility to advocate for a change in the prevailing narrative of underdevelopment within Ijaw communities in Delta State,” he stated.
He called on Ijaw sons and daughters across the state to support the initiative, emphasizing the need for unity and collective action.
The IPGDM, he noted, aims to foster collaboration among stakeholders and drive sustainable development through peaceful and strategic advocacy.
“We respectfully invite all to join us as we lead the process for constructive dialogue towards achieving sustainable developmental progress for Ijaw communities in Delta State,” he added.
