There was panic in Sapele, Delta State, on Friday night after gunmen abducted the Chairman of Sapele Local Government Area, Hon. Okakuro Bright Afure Abeke.
The incident reportedly occurred around 7:25 p.m. at a hotel identified as Debrofred, located along Owumi Road in Sapele.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers arrived at the scene in a Range Rover and immediately opened fire, causing chaos in the area. During the attack, a vigilante member identified as Ufuoma and another individual were shot.
The gunmen subsequently whisked the council chairman away to an unknown destination.
The injured vigilante member was rushed to a nearby hospital, although his condition had not been confirmed as of the time of filing this report.
Following the incident, members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) gathered at the scene in an effort to obtain more information about the abduction of their party member.
The attack has heightened fear and tension among residents, who are calling on security agencies to act swiftly to ensure the safe rescue of the chairman and restore calm in the area.
