Addressing newsmen at a pre-convocation press conference held at the University Campus in Abraka, Prof. Petetomode also revealed that the Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan will use the opportunity to commission some projects embarked upon by the former VC, Prof. Eric Arubayi and the present administration.

Prof. Peretemode said some of the projects to be commissioned by Governor Uduaghan include; the fire service station at campus 3, the administrative block of the Faculty of Education, the Senate Council Chambers, among others.

“The Governor of this state, Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan is going to commission a number of projects. Some of these projects were in fact constructed by the immediate administration of Professor Eric Arubayi, of which I was also a part of. These projects are to be commissioned with other projects of the university that were constructed through the internal generated revenue. One of these project is the fire service station. We have a fire truck, fire fighters and fire tank.”

He said the institution is doing everything within its power to ensure that convocations are held every year in the institution like its done in other civilized worlds, adding that  the university has introduced a process whereby certificates will given to students on convocation day.

While commending Governor Uduaghan for his contributions towards the progress of the institution, the VC stressed that the institutions was also working hard to ensure that technology is introduced into virtually all sectors of the institution.

He noted that when his administration came into operation in December 1st 2014, he and his team hit the ground running by rehabilitating some of the roads that led to the campuses, stressing that  his administration has started building a fire service station each in Oleh and Asaba campuses, and that the fire service trucks were ready for the two campuses.

Commenting on alleged crack in the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), DELSU Chapter, Prof. Peretemode said the Union remains as one indivisible union, but noted that it was only some unscrupulous lecturers that were trying to give the Union a bad name.

On cultism he said his administration has constituted two committees on cultism and exam malpractices that deals with erring students, adding that degrees are awarded not only on the basis of academic excellence but also on character.
