Delta Suspends Works Commissioner Over Alleged Assault

By Francis Sadhere, Delta

The Delta State Government has announced the indefinite suspension of the Commissioner for Works (Highway and Urban Roads), Hon. Izeze Rume Yakubu Reuben, with immediate effect.

The suspension, according to a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Emu, is to allow security agencies to conduct an impartial investigation into allegations linking the commissioner to the recent assault of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Protocol, Mr. Simon Mudi, popularly known as “Temple.”

The alleged incident reportedly occurred at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, in Uvwie Local Government Area of the state.

The SSG said the suspension was necessary to ensure that the investigation was conducted without interference and to establish the facts surrounding the incident.

The state government, the statement added, remained committed to maintaining public safety, law and order, and the sanctity of human lives under all circumstances.

It stressed that the government’s commitment to these principles remained unwavering, even when individuals or institutions of the state were involved.

The suspension is expected to remain in force pending the outcome of the investigation by the relevant security agencies.I can also make it more punchy and newspaper-style, with a shorter headline and stronger lead.
