Delta Local Polls: Why I Am Seeking Re-election – Abugewa

FORMER Chairman of Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, Hon. Peter Ochuko Abugewa has said that he was seeking re-election in the October 25, 2014 local polls in order to consolidate his achievements.
Hon. Abugewa was the last elected Chairman of Uvwie Local Government and he was the first person to pick nomination form for the forthcoming council polls.
He had been screened by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to contest the all awaited October 25 local polls.
Speaking exclusively to National Reformer Newspaper today in Effurun, Hon. Abugewa said he has a big dream for the people of Uvwie Local Government and prayed God to enable him pick the ticket comes August 9, 2014 so as to realize his dream for his people.
He said, “I am seeking re-election because I am a strong advocate of continuity. I want to come back as Uvwie Council boss to consolidate on my past achievements. I did a lot for my people during my first tenure, especially in the restoration of peace. In three years, I changed the development tempo of Uvwie Local Government Area because on assumption of office, I immediately keyed into the three point agenda of Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan and that is the secret of my success.”
The former Uvwie Council boss added that; “I embarked on 37 projects in my first tenure, only one that was not completed because the contractor disappointed us. Like I have said before, I am advocate of continuity; if there is continuity, the people will enjoy more dividends of democracy and that is why I have been praying for God to allow me pick the ticket of the PDP in order to contest the forthcoming local government election.”
Hon. Abugewa said when elected, his priority would be the empowerment of youths and women in Uvwie Council Area and complement what the state government is doing at the state level.
In his words; “My first priority in office if re-elected by the good people of Uvwie is to embark on empowerment programme for our women and youths. I want to build a modern skill acquisition centre for our people and working with the state government, I will make that of the state government functional. I will give a revolving loan to our petty traders, a loan without interest and in my second coming if elected, I will take our boys off the street.”
While decrying over dependence on government allocation, the former Uvwie council boss, disclosed that he would beef up the revenue base of the council in order not to be going cap-in-hand for allocation from government.
He said; “It is my plan to work with some financial experts to beef up our internal generated revenue. I want to partner these financial experts so that we can increase our internally generated revenue. I pray God to give me the ticket because I have a dream for Uvwie people.”
