The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Monday urged the Federal Government to create the enabling environment for businesses to strive, saying that once the environment is safe investors will like to invest their money in the country.

Chairman of the NUJ, Delta State Council Comrade Michael Ikeogwu made this appeal in Warri, when he paid a courtesy call to the Managing Director Skyward Resources Ltd, Warri, Hon. Enahoro Eta.

According to the NUJ Chairman many investors run away from the country because the environment is not conducive enough for them to do business, a situation he said has made the country to be backward.

He said, “I wish to note that if this country must move forward as a state, the government of the day must provide the conducive environment that would attract investors and investments that will create the needed opportunity for meaningful engagements of our teeming unemployed youths.”

Comrade Ikeogwu while commending Hon. Enahoro Eta, MD Skyward Resources Ltd, Warri, for investing in Delta state, said his commitment has provided jobs for a lot of youths in the state.

“I think it is only appropriate for us to commend you for the numerous employments you have provided for Deltans and Nigerians in general. Indeed, you are a man with the heart of Gold sent by God in our generation to help mankind.

“We are not ignorant of the challenges faced by entrepreneurs in our dear country due largely to poor leadership. But the only thing we have to do is to encourage you to continue to do your best in the atmosphere we find ourselves,” he said.

Responding, Hon Eta appealed to journalists in the country to always do their best in bringing the failures of the government to the notice of the public.

He said, “Ours is to see how we can be of help to you since the role of NUJ is critical to the society. Your role is to pass  information to the public and if you play it well it will affect the society positively but if you don’t it will have negative impact.

“You do not go about begging investors to come and invest in your country. Investor need an enabling environment that they can do their jobs well. Your role should be to highlight the ills of the society and the government will be forced to act immediately.”
