Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor of Delta State has congratulated workers in the state and Nigeria on the 2026 Workers’ Day, describing them as the driving force behind government’s progress.
Rt. Hon. Oborevwori in a statement issued on Friday by his Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ahon, noted that May Day is not only a time for celebration but also an opportunity for reflection and renewed dedication to building a society where workers are appreciated and adequately rewarded.
He commended workers in both the public and private sectors including civil servants, teachers, healthcare personnel, artisans, farmers, and entrepreneurs for their invaluable contributions to the growth and development of the state.
“I join Deltans and Nigerians across the country in celebrating our diligent and resilient workforce. You remain the backbone of our development, and I salute your commitment and sacrifices,” Oborevwori stated.
He highlighted strides recorded under his administration’s M.O.R.E. Agenda, including the prompt payment of salaries and pensions, the payment of pension arrears, ongoing recruitment in the health sector, and capacity-building programmes designed to enhance workers’ productivity.
Rt. Hon. Oborevwori also pointed to improvements in working environments, citing the upgrade of public facilities, revitalisation of healthcare centres, and renovation of schools to create more conducive conditions for service delivery.
According to him, entrepreneurship programmes introduced by the government have supported artisans and small-scale business owners, while sustained investments in infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and markets are helping to ease transportation challenges and stimulate economic activities.
He added that the administration is also strengthening agricultural initiatives to boost food production, ensure food security, and stabilise prices across the state.
The Governor added, “this initiative guarantees that your voices are heard and that public resources are managed in the interest of all. It reflects our commitment to fairness, integrity, and accountable governance”.
Rt. Hon Oborevwori urged workers to remain dedicated, uphold excellence in their duties, and continue to work in unity towards the collective progress of Delta State.
Rt. Hon. Oborevwori spoke further, “together, we will build a stronger, more prosperous future for our state.”
