Ogbuagu Blames Nigeria’s Woes On Politicians, Clerics
By Christopher Odamah
Proprietress of Chinkelly Schools, Ekpan-Effurun, Delta State, Dr. (Mrs.) Veronica E. Ogbuagu has lambasted the political and religious leaders of Nigeria, saying they are the cause of every problems in the country.
She calls for reformation from a microeconomic to a macroeconomic and development of a very strong revenue collection mechanism at all levels of government.
Speaking in a welcome address delivered by her to mark the celebration of Nigeria 56 Independence Day Anniversary held at the weekend in Warri described Nigeria as a battered and groaning country.
According to her Nigeria is going through a difficult period with an empty treasury and states inability to pay salaries.
“Every problem in our country today has its roots in bad leadership. Most of our leaders never really had the skill and competence to lead a nation like ours.
We need a reformed Nigeria. “If we must call for reformation, we must agree that Nigeria can do better than it is right now, we must start from the conviction that Nigeria can be cleaned up. It is imperative for Nigerians to now assume that it has zero oil revenue and aggressively develop other previously neglected sectors of the economy,” she said.
Dr. Ogbuagu said that, “The urgency of this situation is all the more glaring from current global statistics that predict in the near future, the demand for fossil fuel would be reduced by at least 25% due to the great strides made in the research for environmentally friendly renewable energy sources.”
She added that it is needless to say that the implication of a clean affordable alternative to oil would lower its demand and in-turn lowers the revenue of oil producing countries.
To survive, according to her, Nigeria must necessarily convert from a microeconomic to a macroeconomic and develop a very strong revenue collection mechanism at all levels of government.
