LITE-Africa facilitates training on conflict sensitive communications In Delta.

Aimed at fostering positive attitudinal changes, inter group tolerance and constructive problem solving; a leading national Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) LITE-Africa on Monday commenced a two-day training on conflict sensitive communication for critical stakeholders.
Participants at the training included, security agents, ex-militants, farmers, community leaders, women group, media, among others.
The Training is being held at the Conference Hall, Lite Africa, Uti Road, Extension, Ugbolokposo, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
Programme Manager, Victor Elomhenriaomon in a welcome address, gave the overview of the NISPA action and the rationale behind the training, stating the objectives and goals and urged participants to actively participate in the training by sharing conflict experiences they have had for others to learn from.
Our Correspondent reports that the training dealt with such issues as honouring dignity, understanding conflict, violence and reaching consensus, conflict analysis tools, active communications, interest based negotiation and rumour management.
According to the organizers, the training is part of the activities of the National Initiative for Sustainable Peace-building Architecture (NISPA), an action funded by the European Union (EU) and Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), designed to strengthen the peace and security in Nigeria.
The 10 months intervention is being implemented in three states of Nigeria— Benue, Delta and Enugu States.
The overall objective of the Action is to support local and cross-border community dialogue/peace building initiative and training that links local initiatives (specially on women’s initiatives) through Civil Society Organizations to ECOWAS peace and security agenda.
