Destruction of Oil Pipelines, Self-Inflicted Injury – Boroh

THE Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Brigadier General Paul Boroh (Rtd) has told Stakeholders, Traditional rulers and leaders in the Niger Delta that destruction of oil facilities in the Region is self-inflicted injury.

Speaking at the Palace of the Amakosowei of Ogbe Ijoh,  General Boroh said his mission to the region is to ensure  peace reigns and that grievances are settled through dialogue.

He implored Pere HRH Couple Oromoni to call erring youths to order emphasizing that it is easy to destroy but difficult to rebuild.

The Amnesty Programmme Coordinator said a strategic thinker defends his territory against attack and destruction  and not make it a battle zone.  General Boroh said where as a result of sabotage of oil installations the rivers are polluted, it is the affected communities that suffer.

General Boroh said his task is to make peace in the region  in order to allow other agencies and strategic development partners to intervene and  impact on  employment and development

The Amakosowei of Ogbe-Ijoh, HRH Couple Oromoni asked the Federal Government to investigate contractors who get contracts to repair pipelines as they may be engaged in vandalism.

He urged the Amnesty Office to empower all youths who have been trained so they can be gainfully engaged.

General Boroh also met the Ijaw Elders Council in Delta State led by Chief Bave Etolor who promised to work for peace in the area and the Nigeria Gas Company Limited led at the meeting by Engr. Gabriel .E. Aggrey who briefed him on the extent of the vandalism.
