NUJ CONGRATULATES GOVERNOR OKOWA ON HIS RE-ELECTION

The Executive of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Delta State Council, wishes to on behalf of the entire journalists in the state, congratulates His Excellency, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, Governor of Delta State, on his re-election victory at the just concluded 2019 gubernatorial election.
According to a statement by Comrade Michael Ikeogwu and Comrade Churchill Oyowe, Chairman and Secretary NUJ, Delta chapter, respectively, “Reports from across the state, adjudge the process leading to the re-election of the governor as free, fair and transparent, and therefore credible. Thankfully to God almighty, the outcome is contrary to fears of threat to peace, order and security of lives and property.
“The victory is a bold endorsement by Deltans of the principle of equity and rotation of the governorship seat among the three senatorial districts in Delta State. It is also an endorsement of continuity of the development strides of the governor owing to the overwhelming votes he got from all the nooks and crannies of Delta State.
“The council salutes the patience, tenacity and doggedness exhibited by Senator Okowa all through the electioneering period and thank God almighty for crowning his efforts with victory.”
The Council also congratulated all other parties and their candidates, particularly the All Progressives Party (APC) and its candidate, Chief Great Ogboru, on the concerted efforts put in the campaigns, which the council believes, have helped to make for engaging and robust electioneering campaigns in the state.
While the council calls on all political parties and their candidates that participated in the gubernatorial election in the state to accept the outcome with gallantry, it equally urged the re-elected governor to be magnanimous in victory by extending hands of fellowship to all stakeholders in the Delta State development project.
“The council believes that after election, governance should follow; which is why the governor must endeavour to concentrate on the continuation of development and progress in the state. Deltans and politicians should also allow for governance, development and progress after the elections and avoid politicking for the next elections.
“As a body, the leadership of the union in the state pledge to contribute objectively to facilitate the success of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa administration and look forward to an ever robust relationship with the Government of Delta State in deepening democratic tenets and good governance.
“The council prays for God’s continuous guidance, grace of insight like that of King Solomon on Governor Okowa and the will-power to fully accomplish the content of his administration’s blueprint tagged the SMART Agenda,” the council added.
