OGHENETEJIRI NYERHOVWO

Youths in the Niger Delta region have been commended for the relative sustained peace in the creeks.

This commendation was given by Mr. Charles Aniagwu, Chief Press Secretary( CPS)to Delta State Governor at an interactive session with the leadership and members of the Online Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (OMPAN), Delta State Chapter who were on a courtesy cal, he said that there can be no meaningful development in an atmosphere of chaos/crisis.

Mr. Aniagwu disclosed that the restored stability and relative peace in the creeks was one of the reasons for steady revenue inflow to the state Government coffers.

While imploring the Niger Delta youths to maintain the existing peace, Mr. Aniagwu said that through the State Advocacy Committee For Protection Of Oil Facilities / Installation, the State Government convened strategic communities summit to offer relevant stakeholders the opportunity to chart a roadmap for diffusing the then simmering tension.

According to him, the state government as part of the strategies to restore peace and stability, ensured the prompt release of funds for infrastructural development in the communities in order to stimulate economic activities and job creation thereby engaging the youths in the creeks.

The Chief Press Secretary further disclosed that the State government patronizes local contractors as part of measures to encourage the growth of local companies as well as create avenues for engaging the unemployed persons.

He noted that local contractors will engage Deltans more in their employment and by so doing, the money paid to them will circulates around the State for more economic and social activities.

While advising the Federal and other State governments to patronize local contractors but with strict supervision, Mr. Aniagwu noted that with time, through government patronage, local contractors will grow like other big multi national contractors.

He advised Delta chapter of OMPAN to unite, put away their ego and collapse their different organisations into a formidable one that will be profitable to all members instead of the many toothless channels.
