YEMA embarks on sensitization campaign on Voters registration.

Determined to ensure that all eligible voters in Ughelli and it environs of Delta State, who have not registered with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the on-going voters’ registration exercise do so and collect their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs), a non-governmental group under the auspices of Youth Emancipation Movement of Africa (YEMA), has embarked on an aggressive awareness/sensitization campaign across the Ughelli.
YEMA who are promoters of peace and good governance in Ughelli, Delta State and Nigeria in general, and committed to free and fair election come 2019 general elections, kicked off the awareness campaign at Ekiugbo down to various popular junctions in the metropolis with well-designed sensitization posters with the inscriptions: “Go and register for your Permanent Voters Card, Your PVC is your right, Without your PVC, you are not a Nigerian” among others.
The group’s coordinator, Comrade Rufus Akpobome Ibebe disclosed that, “Register to vote road walk 2018 campaign” is part of the activity to mark his birthday celebration and is poised to ensure that eligible voters in the state register and collect their PVCs to be able to exercise their civic responsibilities during the 2019 general elections.
According to him: “The awareness campaign was targeted at every nook and cranny of Ughelli metropolis and it would have gone to rural areas but we have limited fund to do so, regretting that most of the dwellers are not aware of the on-going voters’ registration exercise, hence the prompt intervention.”
On his part, one of the guest speakers who enlightened the electorates on the need to register for the PVC, Comrade Austin Ozobo, he commended Comrade Rufus Ibebe for the campaign, stressing that, the PVC is the only means to change bad government and leaders.
In his words: “Go and register for your PVC and vote for good leadership, don’t sell your vote or your PVC. Your PVC is your right to vote and be voted for. Don’t be deceived that your vote does count, your vote count and with your PVC we can achieve good leadership in Nigeria”.
Also speaking, Comrade Akpokona Omafuaire, he noted that, “Your PVC is not only for election purpose but a means to identify that you are a Nigerian. The reason while we are lacking behind in terms of development is because we have looked down on voters’ registration, which is our right to choose the right candidate to govern us.”
YEMA however appealed to Nigerians who have not registered with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the on-going voters’ registration exercise do so and collect their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) before it expire.
