Wives Of Desopadec Board Members Provide Aid To Elderly In Warri

In a heartfelt effort to alleviate the impact of poverty and enhance the quality of life in the oil-rich communities of Delta State, the compassionate wives of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) Board members, spearheaded by Mrs. Maureen Nani, have extended a helping hand to over 100 elderly individuals in Warri and surrounding riverine communities.

Their charitable gesture included cash donations, food supplies, medical essentials, and other humanitarian aid valued at millions of naira.

Mrs. Maureen Nani, alongside Mrs. Flora Ochonogor and fellow board members’ wives, made a significant visit to the Catholic Old People’s Home located at Bowen Avenue in the Warri South Local Government Area.

Speaking with the press, Mrs. Nani emphasized that the initiative was a tribute to mark the first anniversary of their husbands’ tenure in office.

She said, “We stand here today on behalf of our spouses to extend our love and support to the elderly during these trying times. We empathize with our senior citizens, particularly those in the riverine regions, and thus, we are here to provide these donations to alleviate the economic challenges exacerbated by inflation.”

Mrs. Flora Ochonogor, spouse of the Managing Director and CEO of DESOPADEC, affirmed that this benevolent act would be replicated in other communities within the designated area of the organization.

She declared, “This is an ongoing endeavor, and we are committed to continuously offering food and medical assistance to the less privileged in our oil-producing communities and the IDP camps across Delta State.”

Gratefully receiving the donations on behalf of the home, Reverend Father Emmanuel Ogbe, standing in for coordinator Rev. Father Benedict Ukutegbe, expressed profound gratitude to the DESOPADEC Board members’ wives for their compassionate gesture.

He assured that the items would be distributed among numerous elderly residents in the riverine communities. Furthermore, Father Ogbe made a heartfelt plea to the board to consider supporting the expansion of the home’s facilities to accommodate additional elderly individuals.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Pa Tom Oboh, said “We thank God for what you have given us today; it is what we desire; I pray that God will continue to bless your work.”

The noble actions of these compassionate women reflect a shining example of empathy and solidarity, bringing rays of hope and comfort to the elderly population in Delta State’s underserved
