GROUP DRUMS SUPPORT FOR OBORO’S 2019 SENATORIAL AMBITION

The people of Delta Central Senatorial District have been called upon to support the senatorial ambition of Hon. Evelyn Oboro, Member representing Uvwie/Okpe/Sapele Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives come 2019.

This call was made by Mr. James Emanerame, President/Founder, Team Oboro For Senate 2019, a political pressure group during the inauguration of the group in Ughelli, he said that their goal is to mobilise support for Hon. Oboro whom he described as pragmatic, progressive political leader and a philanthropist to achieve her aspiration of replicating and improving upon what she has done and still doing in the House of Representatives for Urhobo nation.

Mr. Emanerame was of the view that women, seen to be very passionate over the development of the place, mothers with loving hearts for the advancement and growth of their children should be encouraged to aspire to higher political positions with a view to better the lots of the people and the area.

According to Mr. Emanerame, “it has become inevitable that Delta State should encourage gender equality in political positions as recommended by world leaders; giving that 35% of elective and appointive position must be given to women. It have been a practice in some country of the world. Rwanda, an Africa country has the largest number of women in their government rating number 1 in the world with 46.3% women in elective and appointive positions. Senegal and South Africa have their place in the top ten rating of the world. Nevertheless, Nigeria is still crawling in 136th position on the log with 5.3% of women in political positions.”

Speaking further, the President/Founder, Team Oboro For Senate 2019 added, “many women around the world have already held the honor of being Head-of-State or Head-of-Government, including the United Kingdom’s Margaret Thatcher, Israel’s Golda Meir, and Liberia’s Nobel Peace Prize winning Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, who was celebrated worldwide for breaking a double glass ceiling. She became both the first female Head of State in Africa and the first black woman Head of State..”

He disclosed that having gone through the ladder of leadership from her school days as first female Vice President, Students Union Government, College of Education, Warri, Financial Director, SUG, Delta State University, Abraka to became a Councillor, then Chairman of the Local Government as well as held various political positions in boards and government agencies before capping it to become the first female Urhobo woman to be in the House of Representatives, it is proper to give her the chance, adding, ” these positions held have prepared her to give Urhobo nation the much needed good representation in the Senate come 2019, let’s rally round her, give her the needed support to become our next Senator.”

Mr. Emanerame further disclosed that Hon. Oboro has done so much as member in the House of Representatives as she has served and still serving in various Committees that positively touched and still touching the lives of the average Nigerian in general and Delta State in particular adding that in the process, she moved various Bills and motions that are of interest to the common man.

He added, Hon.(Barr.) Oboro is a Philanthropist and runs an NGO, Evelyn Oboro Foundation through which she has empowered several women, youths, elderly and children. She has carried out several empowerment programs over the years. In 2012, she empowered over 500 persons with financial grants, sewing machines, vulcanizing machines, motor saws, grinding machines, deep freezers, vehicles for local transportation. Also in 2014, she empowered people of her Constituency with other items which includes Tricycles (KekeNapep) and cash grants. In December 2016, she doled out 30 cars, 100 tricycles, sewing machines, grinding machines, refrigerator, barbing kits, cash grants e.t.c. As a Legislators, she has been able to use her position to bring Federal Government presence to her constituency that has directly impacted the people in areas of Primary Healthcare, good roads.potable borehole water among others.”

Mr. Emanerame said that with these qualities, Hon. Oboro should be supported and encouraged, adding, ” let us give this woman with these sterling qualities a chance to give Urhobo nation good representation and a voice to speak and bring home more dividends of democracy for our advancement and overall good.”
