The Nigerian Army has given assurance of adequate peace before, during and after the Nigerian general elections slated for March 28 and April 11 this year. It has also promised adequate protection to media practitioners especially during the electioneering period.

Addressing members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Sapele Correspondent Chapel who paid him a courtesy call weekend, the Commander of the 19th Battalion of the Nigerian Army in Koko, Lt. Col. Aminu Umar promised to work with other security agencies to ensure a violence free and fair election.

“The military would put its foot on the ground to ensure that there is an enabling environment for people to carry out all that they need to do as regards election and post election periods. We would work with other security agencies to ensure that what is right is done,” he said.

Lt. Col. Umar however frowned at the increasing rate of oil bunkering and vandalisation of oil and gas pipelines describing such acts as deliberate attempt to sabotage the government. He said the military will work assiduously to apprehend such criminals.

He called on members of the public to cooperate with security agencies by providing information so that criminals are apprehended and brought to book.
