Warri South Council Boss Warns Citizens Against Indiscriminate Dumping of Refuse

Chairman of Warri South Local Government Council in Delta State, Hon. Mathew Mofe Edema today warned citizens in the council to stop indiscriminate dumping of refuse along the roads, warning that anyone caught will be made to face a N 250,000.00 ( two hundred and fifty thousand naira) fine.

Hon. Mofe gave this warning while addressing newsmen during the monthly sanitation exercise, and which heralded the council’s one month special environmental sanitation exercise.

Hon. Edema advised people of Warri South Local Government Area to patronize recognized private refuse vendors and tasked landlords as well as companies in Warri to live up to their responsibility by synergizing with the Council towards ensuring a cleaner and healthier environment.

Authorities of Warri South Local Government Council Saturday July 25 defied the rain and intensified its planned one-month special environmental sanitation exercise which began immediately the two-month strike embarked upon by 21 Local Government Councils in Delta State was called off.

As part of the exercise, pay-loaders and trucks mobilized by the council authority led by the Warri South Council boss, Hon. Matthew Mofe Edema, his Vice, Hon. Charlie Etsaghara, Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Bawo Nana, the Supervisor for Environment, Mr. Kenneth George among other top officials, began the massive evacuation of refuse along front of Nigerian Prisons Service, Warri, Okere Market Road, Swamp Road, Stadium Road by Mciver Junction, Swamp Road by Delta Library Board, Kalil Road and Warri Sapele Road by National Inland Waterways Authority, all in the City of Warri.

Our Correspondents report that the Warri South Council Mobil Court presided over by Chief Magistrate V.H. Okonta prosecuted 40 sanitation defaulters.

Thirty-seven of the defaulters were fined various amount of money depending on the magnitude of their offence, while three were cautioned and discharged.

Environmental Health Officials of the Council have since Tuesday July 21 had been coordinating a strategic clearing of over-grown weeds and evacuation of sands along major roads in Warri.
