In a poignant valedictory sermon delivered at St. Paul Anglican Church Ekiugbo-Ughelli, Ven. Emmanuel Azugo, a revered clergyman in the Anglican Diocese of Ughelli Anglican Communion, called upon Christians worldwide to emulate the lifestyle of Jesus Christ, their redeemer.

The theme of his sermon, “The Beginning and the End,” drew inspiration from biblical texts, including Rev. 1:8, John 1:1, and 2 Timothy 4:7.

Addressing a congregation filled with clergy and believers, Ven. Azugo emphasized the importance of leading a life that reflects the teachings and character of Christ.

He urged all Christians, especially those in positions of leadership, to be faithful in discharging their responsibilities, noting the significance of both a good beginning and a good end in one’s spiritual journey.

Quoting 2 Timothy 4:7, Ven. Azugo reminded the audience of the Apostle Paul’s exhortation to fight the good fight, finish the race, and keep the faith as loyal soldiers of Christ Jesus.

Reflecting on his own 44 years in the ministry, he shared personal trials and triumphs, including the loss of a child during a missionary journey, emphasizing the importance of persevering in faith and holiness despite challenges.

Speaking to journalists after the valedictory homily, Ven. Azugo expressed gratitude for God’s guidance throughout his ministry, acknowledging the hardships faced and the ultimate rewards of serving faithfully in God’s work.

“My forty-four years in the ministry of Jesus Christ here on earth was full of challenges but in all, God saw me through all the odds. I lost my child while on a missionary journey but we count it all joy because we believe he died in Christ as a martyr.

“I urged all Christians to serve God with perseverance, faith, and holiness as there are great rewards in doing the work of God in faithfulness,” Ven. Azugo said.

His message of perseverance, faith, and holiness resonated with the congregation, inspiring a renewed commitment to following Christ’s example.

The climax of the valedictory service was a touching gesture by Ven. Azugo’s son, Christlike Azugo, who presented new buildings and furniture to honor his father’s legacy.

The congregation, moved by the display of love and respect, joined in praising Ven. Azugo for his unwavering dedication to guiding others on the path of Christ Jesus.

Ven. Emmanuel Azugo’s farewell sermon served as a powerful reminder of the enduring impact of a life lived in service to God and others, leaving a legacy of faith, perseverance, and love for generations to come.
