…as College of Commerce Warri, presents Zenith Bank Delta Principals’ Cup to Tidi
Dr Michael Tidi, Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, has called on Mr. Amaju Pinnick, President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), to come back home to develop young talents in Delta state, especially, Warri the oil city.
Tidi made this call at the Council’s Secretariat on Friday, when the United College of Commerce (UCC), winners of the Zenith Bank/Delta Principal Cup 2021, presented the cup to him.
Tidi, while praising Pinnick for his numerous achievement in sport administration within and outside Nigeria, said it was not enough to be making name outside the country while people from this local government area are not feeling his impact.
“I want to use this opportunity to speak to Amaju Pinnick to come back home to improve his people. It’s high time he gave back to his people in Warri.
“I am calling on Amaju Pinnick to give back to Warri by inviting international scouts to come and watch these young talents play with the aim of picking these new talents up and showcase them to the International world,” Tidi said.
Meanwhile, the Warri South council Chairman while congratulating UCC for winning the Zenith Bank/Delta Principal Cup for the second consecution time, donated the sum of 200 thousand naira to the school.
He said the objective was to continue to support and appreciate them for making Warri South Council and their school proud, calling on other well meaning Wafferians to support the young talents with a view to harnessing their talents.
He advised the student not to give up in life, urging them further to put the same zeal they used in winning the cup to their academic activities.
Tidi conveyed the congratulatory message of Mrs Divine Iniovosa, Vice Chairman of the council, who is also an alumni of the school, saying “the Vice Chairman is proud of you.”
He commended Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, Governor of Delta State for reawakening the Principal Cup.
Tidi also enjoined other school principals to take a queue from what the Principal of UCC is doing and develope young talents in their various schools.
He thanked Zenith Bank for consistently sponsoring the Principal Cup, calling on other Corporate organizations to join hands in sponsoring the tournament.
Earlier, Mr Felix Useh, Principal of UCC said they decided to present the cup to the Warri South council chairman because of his enormous support during the tournament.
He said the school would not have emerged victorious if not for the support of the council chairman who gave them 100 thousand naira which they used to pay for accommodation throughout the tournament.
“The aim of our coming here today is to present the cup to you. You are a factor to our winning this tournament. You paid the sum of 100 thousand naira for our accommodation.
“So today we have come to present to you the trophy for this year’s Zenith Bank/Delta State Principal Cup, 2021. We did this today because you are a champion. In 2019 when we first won the cup we came here to do the same thing we are doing today. We are so joyful today to present this cup to you because you have supported us so much,” Useh said.
On his part, the game master of the school, Mr. Owhofasa Godspower, said they were overwhelmed with joy when they won the tournament saying that without the support of the chairman they would not have won the tournament.
“Without the chairman (Warri South Council) we would not have won the game. Six of my boys were disqualified during the final match but I insisted on going ahead to play. I converted one of my goal keepers to a player. Our victory shocked everybody in the stadium that day,” Owhofasa said.
