There is Peace in FUPRE – Prof. Etu-Efeotor
Francis Sadhere
The Vice Chancellor Federal University of Technology, Effurn, Delta State, Professor John Ovwata Etu-Efeotor has said that the university is now peaceful, stressing that gone were the days when the institute was replete with litigations.
Prof. Etu-Efeotor said this yesterday when the Nigerian Union of Journalist (NUJ), Warri Correspondent Chapel, paid him a courtesy call.
He said gone were days when the university was replete with different crisis, adding that the University was poised to bringing honour to the state and the nation at large.
“I am glad to tell you that there is peace in FUPRE and joy is returning by the grace of the almighty God. With peace and joy, there will be development and the development has started. We have completed two new laboratories and we have awarded another one,” the FUPRE VC said.
He said; “I am not castigating anybody but you will agree with me that the first five years of this university were vey tumultuous. Some of you (journalists) were here reporting what was happening then. FUPRE was always in the news, particularly, but most negatively, which was balanced. But I think that that image has changed and we thank the almighty God for it. We are here now as a cohesive body of lovers of the institution to build it and to mould the future generation. This is our goal.”
The University VC said that he does not want any rancor or acrimony during his days as the VC of the institute, praying that God should not make him not to deliberately take anybody to court just as his predecessors did.
He said the institute is developing at a fast rate, noting that in the next two years, the university would go places and make the nation proud.
He appealed to the people of the community, Delta State and Federal Governments to come and plant their imprint in the university ground by donating facilities and building structures to the university, saying the structures would be named after those who donated or built them.
He urged all well meaning Deltans and Nigerians to help develop the institute with a view to ensuring that the state institute competes with other institutions in the world.
While thanking the press for the visit, Professor Etu-Efeotor urged members of the press to always report positive stories about the university, adding that he believed in the press as an agent of development.
He revealed that the University has sent some Geology students to Ghana who have returned and to Nigeria with good records, noting that the same Student were going to represent Africa in the World Geological competition.
Earlier, Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalist (NUJ), Warri Correspondent Chapel, Comrade Mike Ikeogwu, told the VC that the union decided to embark on the courtesy call to improve the relationship between the union and the institution, promising that the union will collaborate with the institution so as to bring development to the institute.
