SPEED LIMIT DEVICE: FRSC EXTENDS ENFORCEMENT DEADLINE TO EARLY NEXT YEAR
By Francis Sadhere
The Federal Government has extended enforcement deadline for the installation of speed limit devices on commercial vehicles to early 2017, warning members of the public to stop engaging the services of quacks whenever they want to process their driver’s licenses.
The Federal Road Safety Corps, Zone 5, Assistant Corps Marshal, Kehinde Adeyele said this on Wednesday in Warri, Delta State, during his visit to the state’s Special Safety Road Marshals with the aim to interact and sensitize commercial drivers and other road users on the need to think safety while they are on the roads during the yuletide period.
He said the command is carrying out advocacy and enlightenment on the need for commercial drivers to install the devices in their vehicles.
Kehinde said those who are behind the issuance of fake driving license should desist from it or face the full wrath of the law as the command is liaising with Department of Security Services (DSS) and other law enforcement agents to identify those behind this, warning that those already caught were facing trails in different courts across the country.
While advising road users to drive with care during this ember period, Adeleye, added that the bad portions of bad roads across Delta, Edo and Anambra States will be rehabilitated as the command was partnering with relevant authorities, including Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FEMA) to have at least a palliative measure on the roads before the festive periods.
On his part, the Delta State Coordinator, Special Marshal of Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr. Dickson Amromahwe said the Delta State Command will mobilize all its men to be in Asaba and other parts of the zones like Edo and Anambra States to ensure that there is decongestion of traffic and safety of road users both pedestrians and motorists,
On the issue of drivers’ license in Delta State, the State Coordinator said, there is no problem as the command has programme to sensitize the drivers to be up to date, adding that those who are involved in the issuance of fake drivers’ license will be prosecuted just as he said many are facing trials right now and more will be prosecuted if they are caught.
He appealed to staff as well as Board members of Internal Revue to help in this regards to the issuance of fake license.
Speaking on reckless driving, Marshal Amromahwe said anybody caught driving recklessly on the road will be fined N50, 000 and his vehicle will be impounded.
