Rivers re-run polls: APC Chieftain, Michael Johnny Warns Against Violence
By Francis Sadhere
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, Chief Michael Johnny has cautioned against the killings in Rivers State ahead weekend re-run elections in the State.
Speaking in an interview in Warri, the APC chieftain decried the political killings in the state and urged both parties involved to end the killings now for the interest of perfect peace.
Chief Johnny who is the Chairman of the Egbema Gbaramatu Communities Development Foundation said he was worried over the unabated political motivated killings in Rivers State, saying enough was enough.
According to him, there is no political position worth dying for and appealed to politicians in the state to love one another and go about the March 19,2061 re-run elections in the state peacefully.
In his words; “I am saddened by the political motivated killings in Rivers State. The forthcoming coming re-run elections in the State should not be seen as a do or die affair. There is no political position worth dying for. The Rivers State people are one people and so they must not allow politics to bring division among them.”
Chief Johnny urged the youths in the State not to allow themselves to be used as killing machines by disgruntled politicians, adding that; “Our politicians are busy killing the people in Rivers State and if they should kill everybody who are they going to rule at the end of the day”.
” I am imploring politicians in Rivers State to emulate Delta State where we have conducted several elections in the last few years without recording political killings like what is happening at the moment in Rivers State. We should not allow political office of four or eight years to divide our togetherness. Both members of APC and PDP who are going for the re-run elections should sink their differences and halt the killings. Let the re-run elections witness total peace, it must not be marred by violence”, Chief Johnny posited.
While warning trouble makers to steer clear of Rivers State during and after the re-run polls, the APC chieftain appealed to parents to keep eyes on their children in order not for them to be recruited by politicians for some dirty jobs which might even cost them their lives.
