DELTA POLICE COMMAND ARREST ARMED ROBBERY, MURDER SUSPECT, RECOVERS ARMS … TO CLAMP DOWN ON FIRE CRACKER SELLERS, USERS
The Delta State Police Command has arrested one Nduka Azu (alias Nwakwo), a suspected armed robber/murderer who shot dead one Fidelis Chigbue “m” in January 1, 2015.
According to a press statement signed by the Delta State PPRO, DSP Celestina Kalu and made available to our correspondent in Warri, Azu was arrested while acting on a tip off by detectives attached to the Kwale Division on December 12, 2015.
DSP Kalu also stated that the suspect had also “shot and wounded one Dele Chibogu ‘m’ on his right hand and left shoulder on August 28, 20015 and thereafter went into hiding until his recent arrest.”
She added that: “Items recovered from him included one American made small sized pistol, one cut to size single barrel gun, two live cartridges, some handsets, flash drive and charms.”
“Meanwhile, suspected members of the suspect’s gang who opened fire on the detective in an attempt to free the suspect were successfully repelled,” she said.
she added that investigation and efforts to apprehend other members of his criminal gang are ongoing.
In another development, the Delta State Police Command has deployed detectives to all parts of the state to clamp down on sellers and users of fireworks during the approaching festive periods.
The statement also warned that anyone arrested will be prosecuted in line with the extant law.
The Delta State Police Command, therefore, advised parents to warn their children and wards to refrainparents from the use of fireworks throughout the festive period.
