One Person Crushed to Death in Warri by Demolition Team
By Our Correspondent One person was today crushed to death in Warri by the bulldozer of the Delta State Special Sanitation team, a day after it was flagged off.
Pains, tears and frustrations had on Monday trailed the flag-off of the exercise aimed at cleaning Warri and its environs, but the team recorded its first casualty on Tuesday when a pay loader, demolishing illegal structures rammed into a full loaded tricycle (popularly known as keke) and killed one of the passengers in the process.
The incident which took place at the Water Resources Junction, close to KeyStone Bank in Uvwie Local Government area of the state raised concern among residents.
An eyewitness narrated to National Reformer this evening that; “The terrible incident happened at about 5pm when a pay loader on demolition exercise ran into a keke. One person was crushed to death in the process, while three others were seriously injured. And as if that was not enough, soldiers started shooting to scare people. It was a black day for all of us in Warri.”
A government official wile confirming the incident, said that;“One person was killed while two others were injured. They have been rushed to the Warri Central Hospital. The team is going to issue a press statement today or tomorrow.”
