DELSU Matriculates 6,832 Students for 2013/14 Academic Session

The Delta State University, Abraka has matriculated 6,832 students for 2013/14 Academic session, just as the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Eric Arubayi warned the matriculating students to eschew themselves from acts of indiscipline and lawlessness or be shown the way out.

The VC who gave this warning to the matriculating students during his address at the matriculation ceremony stressed that the school would continue to wage war against nefarious cult activities on campus.

He said, “At this junction, I want to warn that the university takes serious exceptions to issues that bother on indiscipline and lawlessness particularly when such actions involved violence, cultism, breach of peace, examination malpractices, indecent dressing and any kind of action that come under the broad classification of breach of Matriculation Oath.

Professor Arubayi revealed that the school has discovered that some registered associations have been infiltrated by cultists who use them as cover for paying vendetta against their perceived opponents, vowing that their searchlights were beamed on those organizations with the aim of flushing out those miscreants.

While congratulating Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan for the giant strides taken in the overall development of the University, the Vice-Chancellor reiterated that the school will remain focused in pursuit of academic excellence as well as pursue the prodent management of the resources of the University and its overall development.

He said the University had continued to grow from a modest beginning to a citadel of research and learning and that it has continued to part of peace in the pursuit of its primary objectives which has resulted in harmonious relationship with members of the University community.

He said, “The result of things is the turning out of responsible graduates who have continued to contribute positively not only the Nigerian society but the world at large. The credit of the foregoing success of the University goes to the Delta State Government whose interest and commitment to the overall well-being of the University has taken the University to an enviable height.”

He noted that the larger society has continued to look up to the University for high personal and moral integrity, adding that over the years the University has continued to mould the character if students, thereby making them responsible in their chosen careers.

Professor Arubayi enjoined the students to emulate the noble parts and conduct themselves in a way that will promote the good image of the University.

He revealed that the university has continued to do well in the National Universities Commission’s accreditation exercise as the University now had near 100% accreditation status for all her undergraduate programmes.

“This administration has also graduated a total of 186 medical doctors who are now in various hospitals all over the world. The pharmacy programme has been visited by Pharmacist Council of Nigeria and we are very optimistic of full accreditation status when the result is released,” he said.

The matriculation oath was administered by the Registrar of the University, Mr. Ejiroghene Udjo.
